El Generalisimo Franco By Jalon Angel
With Franco winning the Spanish Civil War his regime begins and is marked by heavy censorship of the arts. Which meant that any artist living in Spain who wished to be published could only do so with the consent of the government. This in turn meant that works contains even subtle commentary that didn't support Franco and his Regime were not allowed. Instead what we see in glorification of Franco and traditional family values. In this photograph of Franco we can clearly see the glorification of him. Standing up straight and tall in his military uniform with a cloak draped over his shoulders he looks almost kingly. Additionally taken photos of him in uniform may have been to an attempt to paint him as a national hero. Why do you think Franco posed for so many images like these? Do you think that it was meant for propaganda or just because of his ego?
