Unnamed Photograph By Robert Capa
Robert Capa was well known war photographer for the Republic during the Spanish Civil War. Robert Capa's photographs mark another change in the political commentary in Spanish Art. Unlike the surrealism of a Dali Capa used real photographs, perhaps believing that only a "true" image could really capture the true horrors of war. Although this photo isn't one of his more famous ones it's still a powerful image with soldiers walking right by the corpse of a child. Perhaps these soldiers just don't care about the corpse or have become so desensitized to dead bodies that the sight of dead child no longer effects them. Perhaps the Soldier standing off to the left is ordering them to leave the corpse behind, and is meant to be a remark on how horrible war is that children's bodies are left lying out in the sun. Which do you think is a better medium for capturing the horrors of war paintings or photographs?
