Peluqueria, Limones By Ouka Leele
With Franco's Death in 1975, the era of censorship ended. However with the signing of the 1977 Amnesty Law a Social Pact of Silence begins in Spain. The Pact Of Silence was that no one would talk about Franco or his Regime. This Pact Of Silence extended even to art. As the la movida movement began we notice an interesting change in political commentary in Spanish art. There is none, unlike the days of the baroque movement which praised the empire but gave us subtle commentary against, or the Franco era where art praised Franco, the artist of this day and age decided not to use their work to discuss politics. Looking at this paintings it's ease to see that, as it would incredible difficult to draw parallels from politics to a women's head surrounded by lemons. Do you think that the artist the Social Pact Of Silence caused artist not to make political commentary? Or do you think that maybe it was an act of defiance caused by the Amnesty Law?
